The Textile Conservation programme is very fortunate to be supported by The Weavers Society of Anderston, one of the organisations associated with The Trades House of Glasgow.  The Weavers Society presented student Hannah Vickers with a Certificate of Excellence at their annual lunch held on 11 September, to recognise her achievements in the first year of the programme. Hannah said “It was really lovely to receive a prize and to meet the members of the society, many of whom are mines of information on Glasgow’s textile industry past and present.”

The Weavers Society of Anderston was founded in 1738 when 22 weavers joined together to protect their industry from the introduction of unskilled labour: at that time the then village of Anderston was celebrated for its weaving industry. The Society went on to obtain a Royal Charter from Edward VII in 1902.
